Eratoshenes Experiment

More than 2000 years ago, the Greek scientist Eratosthenes first measured the circumference of the Earth with an ingenious technique requiring only sticks, shadows and a little mathematics. These days, many schools from all over the world participate in recreating this momentous experiment. 

Eratosthenes of Cyrene (Ancient Greek: Ἐρατοσθένης,  was Greek mathematician, geographer, poet, astronomer, and music theorist. 

He was a man of learning, becoming the chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria.
